Cape Town, South Africa – The Sun Met Celebrated with Mumm is one of the most glamorous events on the continent’s social calendar and the second edition proved to be even more thrilling and spectacular.

G.H. Mumm has a long history of collaborating with daring achievers in sport and their current CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer) Usain Bolt didn’t disappoint as the guest of honour. While Oh Susanna and jockey Gareth van Niekerk will steal the sport headlines after their victory in the main race, Usain Bolt evidently stole the show with his appearance at Africa’s Richest Race Day. He made a big statement from the start as he arrived in grand style; descending from the sky in a private helicopter. After landing in the middle of Kenilworth Racecourse, an upbeat Bolt was ushered to the Winner’s Circle. “Hello South Africa!” he greeted, to loud cheers. “It’s a pleasure to finally be here. It’s my first time in South Africa and it is a beautiful country. I’m thankful to my sponsors G.H. Mumm for bringing me here,” he said.

Racing enthusiasts and the top pickings of South Africa’s celebrities were thrilled to be hosted by Usain Bolt and G.H. Mumm’s MC (Master of Celebrations) Minnie Dlamini-Jones. Minnie wowed Sun Met attendees in a daring red, voluminous Gert-Johan Coetzee gown. “I really wanted to push the envelope this year, by celebrating the African theme through my makeup” she says. “Style Ahead of the Field for me is also ‘what have I not done on the red carpet?’ I’ve never done anything this long and voluminous,” she added. Minnie exclaimed that her look is without a doubt a dare and a win.

A star studded mix of celebrity guests celebrated the day’s victories at the exclusive Mumm Paddock Club. Among the beautifully kitted guests were the likes of Nigerian rapper Ice Prince and highly celebrated entertainers like Somizi, Ayanda Thabethe, Nomuzi Mabena, Anatii, Riky Rick, DJ Tira, Loot Love and Siyabonga Ngwekazi. Micasa and Thebe showed off the best of SA live music while PH and Major League DJs ensured everyone stayed until the lights came back on. Bolt lived fully up to his reputation of being a good sport where partying is concerned and could be seen dancing with Minnie and other Paddock clubbers to local beats like Distruction Boyz’ Omunye and Nigerian hitmaker Davido’s hit single Fall. “I’ve been listening to a lot of local music since I landed and I loved it so much that I immediately downloaded some tracks to create a playlist,” the Mumm CEO explains. Bolt was having so much fun, he got on stage to DJ alongside PH.

“Our Chief Entertainment Officer, Usain Bolt, took the celebrations to new heights at the Mumm Paddock Club after a spectacular entrance to the Sun Met celebrated with Mumm. Cape Town came out in masses to dare, win and celebrate in true African style. We can’t wait for the next edition of Africa’s richest race day,” says Mumm Brand Manager Etienne Cassuto.
2018’s installation of the Sun Met celebrated with Mumm has made solid the fact that Maison Mumm are masters at the art of celebration as well as bringing together the worlds of sport and entertainment with fine taste and the right doses of adventure.
