2019 ANNUAL LIMPOPO MARULA FESTIVAL MEDIA LAUNCH!

2019 ANNUAL LIMPOPO MARULA FESTIVAL MEDIA LAUNCH!

The 04th March 2006, was the day on which Marula Industries were created through the pronouncement of the policy statement for the department to make an economic intervention by developing Marula into a viable business industry for the Province based on the fact that Limpopo has a vast concentration of Marula trees (scientifically known as Sclerocarya birrea) found mostly in the sub-tropical parts of the Province including our neighboring provinces (viz: Mpumalanga and North West) as well as some parts in Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

The Government’s intervention in the facilitation of developing the industries that included the registration of 13 cooperatives, comprising in the main rural women from all the five Districts of Limpopo. The initiative had a positive impact on the economy creating in excess of 500 jobs every year for rural community members, hence the reason for the celebration of the first fruit.

The format of the property started mainly as an open air music concert but has over the years evolved into a fully-fledged cultural melting pot consisting of a half marathon, exhibitions, food stalls, street parade, golf day and music festival taking place over two consecutive weekends split into dance movement formerly Kwaito in the first weekend and Gospel and Jazz open air concert in the second and last weekend. The event also allows local and SADC tour operators to tour the near parts of the event venue such as the tourism offering rich area in the Mopani Region.

The event takes place in the mining town of Phalaborwa, near the famous gate to the world renowned Kruger National Park. The entry tickets will be available on the Computicket platform to make the event accessible nationwide.
The target market of the event is mainly individuals from all provinces of South Africa and the SADC countries particularly Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique as neighbours. These SADC countries share political and cultural relations with the province and have patronized the event over the past years.
